I Love Thee

In the soft light of early evening, a quiet alley glows under a pale golden sky and a yellow security lamp. Horizontal lines—walls, paths, and the boy’s gaze—convey his yearning to see beyond the fence. Piano music drifting through the wall fills the air with warmth and romance, as the boy, enchanted by the sound, imagines a love scene and becomes captivated by the silhouette of a girl. This image distills a moment of emotional awakening into lines and colors—a visual memory of first love, tender and just out of reach.

I love you,
Deep within my heart—
Like the sun and the moon,
In their quiet glow.
A love neither grand
Nor shabby.
Even without borrowing
Expensive words,
So simply—
I love you.
That pitiful ache,
Curled up in cowardice,
You do not know.
And perhaps you'll pass me by,
Never knowing
This gentle longing.
Everything in this world
Lives in pursuit of “improvement,”
But in my love—
There is no such thing.
Only this:
That I want to see you.
At any time,
In any place,
I may see you—
But only like a passing cloud.
You were to me
Like baby's breath,
Teaching me the beauty of flowers.
Like lilac,
You sang the sweetness of fragrance.
Since you never truly came to me,
There’s no meaning
In telling you not to leave.
When I close my eyes,
You vanish quietly—
The bitter cup
Of confession.
I love you—truly.
As dreaming follows sleep,
Without the need for insistence.
You disperse into the air,
And stay beside me,
As naturally as breathing.
Yet you clumsily humiliate
My weary soul.

I love you—You.
I count the moments
Until the time our paths cross.
But when that moment comes,
Nothing has changed.
Neither my longing for you,
Nor what I mean to you.

I love you.
Only that—
Like walking the path
I was meant to take,
My love remains ordinary.
Even a few words
Become thousands of thoughts—
This foolish hunger to see you.
Who could ever know
This tender hesitation
Standing before you.
Not the will to shut away
But a struggle,
To reach for completion.
I do not know
What I must do.
Only know,
That I love you.
